21 ways Rich ( minded ) people think ( and how you can follow their path )

Today I just had an idea that came up to my head and I feel like I want to share it. In this world so many people think that rich people made it by luck or had some special talent or something, yes there are VERY few that make it by luck, but the majority of them make it through good old fashioned hard work. Is hard work all what it takes to become wealthy? Yes and No. Yes because you have to work ( in order to get there ) and also you have to have the mindset dedicated to becoming rich. You don’t have to be rich now, you just need to have good mindset when it comes to life and money. After all that’s how the rich got to where they are:). Poor and average people think MUCH different, in some cases the opposite of what Rich people think. So now let me shut up and show you the difference of how both categories think.

1. Rich people think long-term, average people think short term

long-term This sounds funny every time I think about it, for instance there are so many people that want that short therm pleasure, like getting quick money, or buying that $600 dollar pair of Jordan’s.  Rich people think like this: ” are those pair of shoes gonna give me the life I want? or “Is it REALLY worth $600 dollars? or I really spend that same amount on something much more worth while.

2. Average people think money is the root of all evil, Rich people think poverty is the root of all evil.

evil There are so many people in this world that have been brainwashed by society to think that if you want a lot of money, you are a bad person. I’ll be honest I was in that level of thinking as well, but slowly moved myself out of there mentally. I still remember when I was discussing something with my someone that involved making money, and he gave me the stink eye and didn’t say anything for 5 -10 seconds. Then the looked at me in the eye and said ” Omar did you know that making money is bad? It is an evil desire” From then on I realized that my he was brainwashed into this idea of thinking and I coudn’t explain to him what I wanted to do. Poor and middle class people tend to think that Rich people are nasty and lucky. Then I researched what Rich people do and I was very astonished at what they do. The funny thing is that these same people go to work for a paycheck and when they don’t get a raise, they complain and moan like babies. And on top of that they play the LOTTERY. Its like they contradict themselves. Like come on, make up your mind!

3. Average people think selfishness is a bad thing, Rich people think is necessary.

selfish Now this doesn’t mean that you have to be greedy and not care about other people. There are two types of selfishness, covert selfishness and overt selfishness. You want to be OVERTLY selfish. Overtly selfish means that you go after what you want. Covertly selfish means that you let things happen to you. This means that rich people are not  pretending to be someone that they are not, and they don’t care what others think when it comes to their goals and dreams. They go for their passion no matter what anyone else says.  ( Most ) poor and middle class people think that this is bad and they should just get by, thats what keeps them poor/middle class. Some of them don’t, and that’s why there are self made millionaires (hence the word “most”).

4. Average people have a lottery mentality, Rich people have an action mentality

action For some damn reason average people just can’t seem to get their minds of the lottery. They always believe that playing the lottery is give the best and highest chance to get rich…..WHAT?! Let me tell you something, the chances of you hitting the powerball jackpot is 1:175 million! That means that I would have to spend 175,000,000 dollars then and only then MAYBE you win. This mentality is the “get rich quick” mentality, which means you expect to do very little to none to get rich. Thats the mentality that keeps them average. Rich people on the other hand think that in order to achieve their goals they have to take ACTION. They know that with some elbow grease and persistence and passion they would get there.  So they would have a MUCH better chance of getting and staying Rich than playing the lottery. Thats what separates them from every one else.

5. Average people think the road to riches is paved with formal education, Rich people believe in acquiring specific knowledge.

self education A lot of people think that going to school and then a  prestigious college is going to get you rich. Let me tell you straight up going to school and getting a job won’t get you rich in itself. I am not saying that school is bad, in fact it is good. The thing is, it is a tool that HELPS you to make a living and get by, the rest is up to you! First of all school teaches you to work for someone else. Second, since when did the schools of society teach about REAL financial education? very little to none. Third, you are relying on some one to pay you an income ( AKA a paycheck ). Fourth and most importantly, your income is limited. Fifth, you don’t have real security and you could be fired anytime. Mean while the Rich think differently, they are open to learning new ways how to make money. Some even take it as far as creating multiple sources of income. Such as Investing in Real Estate, Stocks, Bonds, and/or an creating an offline ( as well as online business ). This creates a REAL safety net of them.

6. Average people long for the good old days. Rich people dream of the future.

future To me, personally in my opinion and my experience, so many people think about the past, and talk about how they miss it. To me that is not good, because first of all you can’t change the past, you can only change now or the future. Rich people dream about the future, and in my opinion this is the best route mentally, because that shows you have ambition and you want to change your future, because once again you can’t change the past. Dwelling on the past is the worst and stupidest thing you can do.

7.  Average people see money through the eyes of emotion, Rich people think about money logically.

logic Almost everybody on this planet is tied to the “green paper” like a magnet and not let their thinking take over. These are the same people that don’t take (calculated) risks with their money, whether it be investing it in an asset, like commodities. They instead use their paycheck for stupid things. Rich people think, all well I should try this, because if I don’t, nobody will. “I am putting my money on useful things”.

8. Average people earn money doing the things they don’t love. Rich people follow their passion.

passion This I believe to be so true and kind of sad too in my opinion. Most people work at jobs that they don’t like ( and I am talking long term ), just for the sake of getting money. Thats one of the stupidest things that a person could ever do (excluding emergencies). Sure everyone needs money, but if that person doesn’t like what he/she is doing, that persons life is going to be a waste, yes I said it! Not only that, he/she is not going to be happy, not matter how much he/she is getting paid. I hear so many people say this ” Oh my God I have to go to work tomorrow” ” Or the reason why I am still working is because I am getting paid good money” or the big one ” I can’t wait for the weekend.” Those people don’t feel fulfilled. Money in itself doesn’t  give happiness, its a combination of passion AND money. Meanwhile the Rich do what they like, because it would not feel like “work”. And also they are going to get money anyway, and lots of it because they like what they are doing.

9. Average people set low expectations so they’re  never disappointed. Rich people are up for the challenge.

challenge So many people set low expectations for themselves so they can feel comfortable. The problem with this is, that those same people that want to get rich, won’t get rich. I find it funny how they talk about becoming rich, but their (long-term) goals are so small. The Rich know that if they set high goals, that they would live a very good and fulfilled life. You can’t expect to live life and be rich, if you don’t set high expectations for the long run.

10. Average people believe you have to DO something to get rich. Rich people believe you have to BE something to get rich.

be something First of all doing is only one part of the equation. For example if you are planning to start a “business” for the sake of JUST getting money, without providing any value to people, do you think you are going to get Rich? Hell no! Meanwhile if you want to BE someone great, for example creating an organization to feed the homeless. There you are BEING a person of value. That value is going to transform into wealth.

11. Average people believe you need money to make money. Rich people use other people’s money.

money While in some cases you need money in order to make money, that is not always the case. The thing is you can use none of your OWN money, and use other people’s money to fund your future. Rich people are always thinking “is this with the money” “what is in it for me” etc. So next time when someone tells you that you need money, tell them this.

12. Average people believe the markets are driven by logic and strategy. Rich people know they’re driven by emotion and greed.

greed This is kind of funny that the average people think like this, especially when they themselves use emotion and greed them selves. Sounds contradicting eh? That’s because it IS contradicting. The rich know that the average people think this way, so they take advantage of that. They know that the average people’s thinking is going to keep them….oh yea… average.

13. Average people live beyond their means. Rich people live below theirs

means How many average people do you see shopping for Louis Vuitton clothes, expensive Jordon’s and other luxury items on CREDIT? Many people do this and I find it astonishing for the reason that they want to “look” rich. The problem is that’s the action that’s keeping them average. Rich people live below theirs, because they know that’s a smart decision that’s going to make them……. oh yea richer.

14. Average people teach their children how to survive. Rich people teach their kids to get Rich.

rich Most people have this mentality to just survive in this world. They go to grade school, then college, and their education ends. Then they get a job, work until 65 then they MIGHT retire and live on their 401k, or pension and if not, they have to work until they die. Rich people tell their kids to get rich by not relying on other people to create their life for them. The tell them to go out there and hustle their a$$es of and kill it.

15. Average people let money stress them out. Rich people find peace of mind in wealth.

peace of mind Average people are literally controlled by money and believe that money is the root of all evil. Funny thing is that they complain when they don’t have enough because of all their bills they have, and their rent, and other expenses. Rich people know that if they have enough wealth their future would be secured and they would have less worry. They just go BIG so they won’t have to worry about it later.

16. Average people would rather be entertained than educated. Rich people would rather be educated than entertained.

education When I mean by educated I don’t mean a college education (aka formal education). I’m talking self-education, the stuff you don’t learn in school, but you learn by reading books, articles, videos, attending seminars etc. Most people’s education stops right after they graduate from college and their mind gets shut down. And then they start partying like crazy every weekend, and before they know it they are 50 years old and still living the average life style. Rich people know that if they self-educate themselves and hustle at an early age they would live a much better life and less worry in their golden years.

17. Average people think people Rich people are snobs. Rich people just want to surround themselves with like-minded people.

like minded people The reason why rich people only hangout with other rich people, is because average people have this negative connotation when it comes to money. They also have a negative perception when it comes to rich people. This is pretty idiotic considering that the Rich people would be happy to spend time with average people, if it weren’t for their mindset.

18. Average people focus on saving . Rich people focus on earning.

earning So many people think that JUST saving no matter how much you earn is the best way to go in life. This is absurd because you only have so much to save. In the book Rich Dad Poor Dad, Robert Kiyosaki states that if you are not earning a lot, don’t simply live below your means, but expand your means. In other words focus on making more money and/or creating multiple sources of income, instead of having one source of income ( AKA a J.O.B)  and saving your way. If you are making $20/hr on your job and you save 10% on every paycheck, assuming you get payed every 2 weeks ( lets take taxes out of the equation ). You would be saving $160 every 2 weeks. Now lets say you have another source of income ( such as an online, or offline business) paying the same thing, that would be $320 dollars. I think the latter sounds better;)

19. Average people play it safe with money. Rich people know when to take risks.

risk When it comes to money, the average people tend to care and have such a strong emotion about money, that when they see an opportunity come their way, they let it pass by. They almost always have a negative connotation when it comes to risks, they believe mistakes shouldn’t be made and if the see that something involves risks, they are scared sh*tless. They don’t even think about taking calculated risks. The problem is that with this kind of thinking, they would never get rich. Achieving anything great in life requires some type of risk.

20. Average people love to be comfortable. Rich people find comfort in uncertainty.

uncertainty In life the key to personal growth and TRUE success requires stepping out of your comfort zone. In other words try something that you never did before. Average people see this as a bad thing because they get uncomfortable. Duh…that’s why its called steeping outside your comfort zone. The bad thing about having this mindset is that if you don’t step out of your comfort zone you don’t grow, you stagnate. Average people have a fixed mindset, Rich people have a growth mindset.

21. Average people never make the connection between money and health. Rich people know money can save your life.

life saver When I was younger I used to ask my father if he would like to be rich. His answer was always this ” I rather be as healthy as an Ox than be rich”. It was like he had to choose only one option between the two. It always confused me, because usually the more money you have, the better food you can buy. The middle class always talk about their companies health care, and rely on the government for this. The rich have much better healthcare because the can afford it, in some cases they have 24/7 access to a doctor.

22. Average people believe they must choose between a great family and being rich. Rich people know you can have it all.

happy family Again for some reason the average people think that when it comes to being rich, they have to sacrifice everything else.  They come up with excuses like ” Money doesn’t buy happiness” to make themselves feel better and live an average life. While the people that are super ambitious say ” the hell with it I want to get rich so me an my family can live a better life”

Conclusion

So these are the difference between how the Rich and average think. Their thinking is astronomically different, in most case quite the opposite. Think about this, which path sounds better to you. Its not hard:)

You hit the nail on the head. I also think it is about mindset. You provide a list of how rich and the not-so-rich people think about money. I am glad that you have changed your mindset about this. Your personal story of how your parents viewed making money will resonate with many. Your article does make people think and hopefully they will examine their mindset. Thanks for a great article.

Hey Rodney… exactly, everything in life starts with mindset! If you have the wrong mindset, you will not achieve success. If you have the right mindset however, you can achieve just about anything in life. But the good news is that you and everyone else can change their mindset, ( hence the reason why I wrote this article ) it just requires good exposure to certain people and reading quality books. Theres a book called “What to say when you talk to yourself” by Shad Helmstetter. Thank YOU for taking the time to read my article:)

I found many great ideas within your post. I wish I would’ve had this training when I was younger. Although, it may never be too late. The saying that you quoted is actually taken from Scripture and it includes the following: “The Love of money is the root of all evil.” When you take the entire Scripture into consideration, then you can see why it is evil. If you love money more than God or anyone else you are off track!

Hey Edward! Let me just tell you, it is never too late! Think about it this way, you can show your kids ( if you have any ) this article. That way your kids can grow up and see the world differently ( in a good way of course ). I find it a little sad why most people don’t have this sort of mindset, but hey, thats why I created this site!:) I agree with the money and the bible, there is more to life than JUST money. ( True ) friends and family come first! Thank you too much for taking the time to read my article. Theres a nice little book called the seven spiritual laws of success, I highly recommend you read it! Thank you so much for taking the time to read my article:)

People think that rich people are lucky or just have a gift. But the truth is, they think differently. They think long term, so instead of indulging in that costly small guilty pleasure now, they save their money and buy things they need not things they simply want. Rich people know they need to be selfish, they need to think of themselves and their family first always, and don’t let anything come ahead of that. Poor people are always looking to win the lottery, but rich people know that hard work is needed and they always need to take action on what needs to be done. Rich people know that a formal education isn’t required, but learning specific knowledge is the key. Rich people are open to creating multiple streams of income and never waste their time on something that they believe won’t pan out. Rich people dream of the future and are always looking ahead. They follow their passions and are up for challenges when they come up, because they know they are more likely to succeed if they like what they are doing. Rich people live below their means, not spending unless necessary. They also teach their children what it means to be rich, and not go hog wild when they get older. Rich people know when to take risks and when to sit back and lay low.

    Hey Omar!

Thanks for this amazing article on the difference in thinking between average and rich people.
Like you say… The two are quite the opposite! Though very interesting and true.

I definitely think average thinkers will almost always stay average, as long as they are afraid to step outside of their comfort zone bubble and become risk takers.
It’s a well-known fact that you will most likely be just like the people you spend most of your time with. This is why rich people always surround themselves with other’s who think just like them.
It’s not that they are snobs; it just boils down to the simple fact that a person who has an average person’s level of thinking, will not be able to relate or understand the language or risks a rich person would be willing to take, so the two would struggle to move forwards as long as the average thinker continues to think like an average person.

Thanks again for all the great info and your amazing website!

      Hey Simmone!

Yes you are right! It is all about stepping outside of your comfort zone and mindset. If you think like an average person, you WILL be average. It all starts in the mind. In life you must take calculated risks in order to succeed. Thank you for taking the time to read my website:)
