When it comes to self development and growth, there are a lot of things that you can do to improve your self as a person and become the best version of yourself. Whether it be spiritually, mentally, physically, or emotionally, these are all important. But when it comes to life in general, there is more to it. You may be asking, Omar there’s more? Fear not, it is not a lot of things, it is one thing.
That thing is Mindset. Mindset is what sets the foundation for either success or true failure. And I am not just talking about money either, it’s EVERYTHING! It has to do with how you “approach things” mentally. Now a lot of you guys may be thinking ” screw mindset, that’s not even important, I just want to take action and kill it!” Basically you Guys are saying “Mindset is a bunch of baloney. And if you think that mindset is not important, then you are in for a rude awakening in the long-run! Like I said in the beginning in this paragraph it could make the difference between you being and feeling like a champion, or you feeling like a loser and failing ultimately. No matter how motivated you “think” you are towards doing a certain thing, your mindset Still determines if you are going to make your ultimate goals. I don’t know if you noticed this, but a lot of business people/ entrepreneurs as well as influential and great people read books about mindset. The reason why they do this, is because they want to put themselves in the “groove” and work hard, no matter comes in their way. Now let me shut up and explain why;).
Why your mindset is important
There are many many MANY reasons why mindset is so important. Mind set is literally the “end all be all” when it comes to achieving things in your life. In fact it is so important, that if you want to do a certain thing or want to reach a certain goal, but if you don’t have the correct mindset to achieve it, you might as well either change your mindset or stop right there! Yea I said it!, that’s how important it is for you! Mindset works with something that is almost equally important, and that is beliefs. Mindset works very similar with your beliefs on accomplishing something. You have to BELIEVE that you are going to accomplish something of your interest. Simply saying that you want to do it doesn’t change anything. I could say that I want to have $100,000, does that mean I am going to work for it? Of course not!. If you want something, you are going to have to believe in yourself that you are going to get it. If you don’t believe that you are going to get it, you actually would not get it. You need to have the proper beliefs in place with you, which I am going to talk about in this article.
There are different types of mindsets
When people Hear the word mindset, they think of only one thing. But they don’t know that it is separated into sub categories. Did you know that there are two types of mindsets? Most people think that there is either a bad mindset or a good mindset. While that is true, there is a name for those mind sets. It is stupid mindset and smart mindset, I’m just joking. It’s not called that, it is called Fixed mindset and Growth mindset. People either have a fixed mindset or a growth mindset. Guess which one is better?:). I have a hint, look at the first word;). You have the answer? Good:). The answer is growth mindset. If I would tell you the definition of fixed mindset vs growth mindset, you would know. Fixed mindset is the idea that your intelligence and talent alone determine your success, without hard work. You would not want to try new things and have no interest in doing so. Making mistakes are your worse enemy, as you make a few mistakes you would start to call yourself a failure. Basically you would think ( and expect ) that you are perfect and would never make mistakes. Another thing is that you would think that all people ( including you ) are born with some special talent and intelligence that nobody could out match. The cause of this is when you see an obstacle coming your way, you would give up easily. Giving up easily eliminates the action of persistence. You would as well avoid challenges if you see them coming your way. When it comes to criticism ( even constructive criticism ) you don’t like it and don’t even bother with it. You would probably be thinking like ” who’s this crazy person here for “Sometimes you would even ignore it!”. When you see another person become successful, you would feel jealous and threatened and compare yourself to them. But I believe the absolute worse thing that they perceive, Is that they see effort as a waste of time and useless. I believe so strongly in this because everything in life that is worth having is not easy to achieve. You would have to work hard for what you want out of life. Like I said above you would need a combination of hard work and PERSISTENCE! Without any of these things taken place, along with having a fixed mindset is going to keep you underwater and keep you from being a high achiever in life.
Now let’s talk about my favorite mindset of all, few people have and maintain this mindset overtime. This is by FAR the best mindset a person could ever have, having this mindset can make you accomplish so many things in life that it worth taking about for ages. The only difference is I am not going to be writing this article for ages LOL. Anyways you would be ahead (and different) from so many people that you would question yourself if you are the only one in the world that thinks this way. I’m not saying that there are only a handful of people in this planet that think this way, but in comparison to the rest of the world population there are a small amount of them. But guess what?, this is good because you are going to have a mindset that many people don’t have ( or won’t have ).
Qualities in a growth mindset
In life we are going to go through challenges, whether we have a fixed mindset or growth mindset. This is going to be inevitable situation that we are going to go through. The good thing is that you would face those challenges and be mentally strong to handle them. As a matter of fact, you would want to have some challenges going your way so you can keep your mind occupied. If you encounter any challenges ( which you will ) along the way, and you embrace them, in the long run these challenges that you just faced would not seem as challenging as they were in they were after all. The result is a much stronger mind and you would be able to easily adapt to certain challenges that come your way. Another benefit of of this that you would also have more wisdom and experience under your belt in the future. If these people get told that they won’t be able to accomplish a certain thing(s), there response would most likely be ” you don’t know what you are talking about, I am going to do whatever it takes to reach that goal, even if it would be a bit challenging because it is going to be worth it”. If they find it challenging to fly, they would do anything to make themselves fly, lol well maybe not that, but you know what I mean.Clearly this shows that these people don’t give up easily.
Persist even when there are setbacks
Persistence is the biggest factor to achieving success. This is a nightmare for people with fixed mindset and a golden haven for people with a growth mindset. Being persistent is the true determining factor if you are going to be successful or not. When a you are working towards a goal or an achievement, you would almost always encounter an obstacle that I going to “delay” your progress. In other words, it is virtually inevitable that you will encounter an obstacle along the way. The good thing is that people with growth mindsets are expecting that they are going to encounter these “problems” and you know what that means, they are ready and they are prepared for it! While people with fixed mindsets expect everything to be easy peasy. They thing that there are not going to be obstacles and challenges along way. This is a huge problem because a those conflicts are certainly to come. It’s just a matter of when. When they experience their first obstacle they get frustrated and give up. This leads them to think that they are not good enough for what they want to do, or even worse….themselves!
They see that hard work creates mastery
Have you ever heard the saying “practice makes perfect”? Well that sentence goes without saying that if you keep working hard at a certain thing, you would get better at it. Think about the very first time you drove a car, it wasn’t easy at first, but once you got the hang of it, it became second nature. There is another saying that it takes approximately 10,000 (ten thousand) hours of doing a certain activity consistently in order for you to become a master at it. That is a long time! And that goes back to what I was saying before in the above category, PERSISTENCE is the key! I believe that hard work and persistence go hand in hand extremely well. Because if you don’t have persistence, then you are really not working hard. Whether you believe it or not, every normal person could learn anything, as long as they put their mind to it. It could be baseball, basketball, driving, or flying a plane. You can do literally anything! Our minds are that powerful! Persistence is the number one thing that stops most people. Simply because the amount of time it takes to become good at something, or become successful. They think that becoming successful comes in a flash, and once they realize that success doesn’t come fast they stop. Anything worth having in life takes time and is not easy!
Learn from criticism
Now I know what you guys are probably thinking ” yea, yea, yea whatever, I hate being criticized! “. Well guess what, you are going to get criticized all the time, at least some of the time. You could be the most successful, best looking, healthiest, wealthiest, happiest person in the world and you would still be criticized. That’s how the world works. But this type of criticism that Im going to be talking about is constructive criticism. Basically constructive criticism is when people are giving useful feedback on something you did and what you need to improve on on that specific activity that you are doing. I call this “feedback criticism”. Guess what, you probably gonna know what I am going to say, you NEED that type of criticism because that’s what’s going to set you free. Why?…….because that same criticism is valuable information given to you on what stuff you can fix and improve on. Growth mindset people understand the importance of this and that criticism could make them very successful in the long run. The sad thing is that fixed mindset people don’t or won’t understand this. Don’t fall into this trap. Learn to value constructive criticism!
Find inspiration in the success of others
If you do not find inspiration when you see successful people, then you better change your ways. You know why? Because you are always going to see successful people, if you watch TV or use the internet you would know what I mean. Being jealous of these people and hating on them is not going to achieve anything. They busted their butts off to become that successful and now it’s your turn. Assuming you have a growth mindset, instead of you b*tching and whining on how that person is so successful, you would use that as fuel to push yourself to have the same or better lifestyle than that person. For example, let’s say you are watching a video about Richard Branson, who is an entrepreneur and founder of Virgin Galactic. You see that he is showing off how he lives like, the places he travels, the cars he has. You would use that as motivation and say to yourself that one day you are going to have a lifestyle just like that . It doesn’t have to be Richard Branson, it could be your idol.
